Our Lady of Lourdes Church is searching for a Director of Music Ministry. Our Lady of Lourdes is located on Glenway Avenue in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founded in 1927, Our Lady of Lourdes provides worship and prayer to families on the west side of Cincinnati. Our Lady of Lourdes School provides education for grades K-8.
 
The Director of Music Ministry serves the parish as the principal musician, keyboardist and choir director. This role is responsible for effective planning, developing and instilling the role of music within all liturgical celebrations of the parish. The Director is directly involved with and collaborates with the school Music and Fine Arts staff.
 
The candidate must display proficiency in the use of keyboard instruments and be technologically capable to manage the church sound system. The candidate should have knowledge and appreciation for the Catholic Church’s liturgical tradition, be skilled in choral development and have knowledge of a repertoire suitable for liturgical celebrations for congregants of all ages.
 
Formal musical education and training is preferred.

Director of Music and Liturgy

The Director of Music and Liturgy serves the parish as principal musician, organist/piano and choir director according to the highest professional standards established by this profession. The director assist the pastor in organizing liturgical ministers and liturgical schedules. This is a full-time position, but could be part-time if needed.
 
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Works in collaboration with the Pastor and parish staff.
Provides service by playing for the regular parish liturgical celebrations including funerals and weddings.
Provides for liturgical updating and education of the parish.
Maintains and develops personal and professional skills.
Works with business manager to develop budget for liturgical music.
Coordinates the liturgical minister’s schedule, to include servers, lectors and extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist.
Recruit members to both the adult and children’s choir.
Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor.
 
Qualifications:
Must have a high degree of proficiency in the use of the organ/piano as attested to by formal credentials and a personal performance audition.
Should have a working knowledge of other instruments, which may be used in liturgical music.
Must have skill as an effective choral conductor as demonstrated by formal credentials and/or a choral audition.
Must have a knowledge and appreciation of the Church’s liturgical tradition as well as current liturgical practice.
Must have the ability and desire to lead and sustain a program of quality congregational singing.
Must have a good knowledge and repertoire available for liturgical music programs for adult and children’s choir, organ/piano and congregation.

Director of Liturgical Music [Part Time]
St. Margaret-St. John, Cincinnati, OH

St. Margaret-St John Catholic Church is seeking a part-time Director of Liturgical Music to begin any time prior to September 1, 2019.
 
St. Margaret-St. John Parish offers a vibrant and growing choral music program in the Catholic tradition. The primary ministry of the choir at St. Margaret-St. John lies in its role as leader, supporter, and teacher of the congregation in the singing of the propers, hymns, and service music of the mass. The choir also offers choral voluntaries and anthems, the repertoire being drawn from all musical periods.
 
Music at Mass is primarily lead from the two-manual Schantz-Muller Pipe Organ, original to the church building.
 
Responsibilities:
• Cantor & play the organ for two weekend Masses: 3 PM Saturday Vigil Mass and the 10 AM Sunday Mass.
• Facilitate Choir Rehearsals on Tuesday evenings (day movable) from 7-8:30 during the choral season (Sept-June).
• Direct the choir from the organ during the choral season.
• Play the organ & cantor for special Holy Days of Obligation such as Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, etc.
• Play the organ and cantor for weddings and funerals held in the church.
• Choose the liturgical music throughout the year (hymns, ordinaries, psalms, choral anthems, postludes/preludes)
o Please note: the musical “style” of this parish is more “hymnody” and less “religious song.” (Appropriate hymns include “O God Beyond All Praising” “Praise to the Lord” “Now Thank We All Our God” “Let All Mortal Flesh” and things of that sort)
 
Prerequisites:
• Knowledge and skill in playing organ at a Catholic Mass (especially in leading congregational song) and a varied organ repertoire appropriate for Masses throughout the liturgical year.
• Skill in choral, solo, and instrumental accompaniment as well as choral directing..
• Decent sight-reading skills.
• Must be able to sing and play at the same time. A “pleasant” voice desired.
• Knowledge of traditional Catholic Sacred music (hymnody, choral anthems, etc…)
• Adequately pass a standard background check.
 
Compensation:
The pay rate for this position is currently set at $125 per Mass and $50 per Choir Practice. The organist shall be permitted to use the facilities of the institution (organ & pianos) for private teaching. Additional compensation is provided for playing weddings and funerals ($125 each) of which the organist would have first right of refusal.  Depending on the number of weddings and funerals, this position would make anywhere from 14k-17k a year.

St. Mary, Hyde Park has a growing and thriving music ministry, including 3 choirs, a cantor program, a newly refurbished Steinway piano, and a 3-manual pipe organ currently being rebuilt (anticipated completion in November 2019).
 
Primary responsibilities are to play piano/organ at the 4:00 p.m. Saturday Vigil Mass as well as the Wednesday and Friday morning Masses with and without the school children, work with and train cantors from the school and parish, assist when needed for Holy Days, weddings, and funerals.

Director of Music Ministry [Part Time]

Job InformationThere are two major components to this position. One component is teaching music at a K-8 Parochial school, and the other is playing at regularly scheduled masses, and building a choir.
 
This is a Full-Time position with salary and benefits.
Music teacher in a K-8 Parochial School: Classroom teaching following Archdiocese of Cincinnati curriculum requirements and the Guided course of Study which is available for review at . Familiarity with computers and the ability to input grades using the “Option C” program. Two classes for all grades from K-8 on a four-day schedule. Responsible for coordinating the Christmas and Spring concert, 8th Grade graduation ceremony, and developing a school choir that sings at the Wednesday school masses and one monthly weekend liturgy. Must pass a background check and follow the Virtus Child protection protocols.
 
Organist: Provide service by playing for the regular parish liturgical celebrations including weddings and funerals. Training, directing, and supervising an adult choir and cantor programs. Play the organ for the regularly scheduled masses as well as funeral and nuptial masses. An additional stipend will be given for funeral and nuptial masses. St. Monica-St. George, located in Clifton Heights, is seeking a Director of Music and Worship starting June 1, 2019. The parish celebrates 4 weekend Masses (the Saturday eve. Mass is covered by another musician) and 25+ weddings each year.  Primary responsibilities are to play piano/organ, direct choirs (one of these is UC students) and train cantors.  The director plans all of the music.  Several times a year there is a children’s choir and handbell choir.  This position involves working with, recruiting, coordinating, training and scheduling all liturgical ministers.  The director works with a Worship commission and sacristans for seasonal decorating.  The parish would like to continue a tradition of a concert every other year. Currently, this has been a full-time position with lighter hours in the summer.  The candidate should have a graduate degree in music, knowledge of liturgy and possess good pastoral skills.  The successful candidate is a team person, working with all of the staff members of the parish and Newman Center on a regular basis.

Director of Parish Liturgical Music

Role:              To provide leadership and accompaniment needed for a quality parish liturgical music program.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • To accompany the choir and congregation on the piano for the singing of hymns and service music at each Sunday Mass, 10:00 to approximately 11:10 a.m.
  • To meet with the choir for rehearsal, usually l/2 hour before Mass each Sunday, 9:20-9:50 a.m., or at another mutually agreed on time. 
  • To plan the music for parish liturgies and to provide the pastor, 
the choir and the worship guide writer with the projected plan at the beginning of each month or liturgical season;
  • To meet with the parish liturgy committee before each new liturgical season for consultation and planning (Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, Ordinary time, etc.)
Accountability:   The Parish Music Director is accountable to the Pastor
Compensation:  To be negotiated according to Archdiocesan guidelines.

  • Parish Mission Statement:  The parishioners of Holy Name Church are people who wish to be members of a diverse , community-oriented church.
  • The average number of parishioners each Sunday is fifty to sixty people.  The choir is regularly made up of ten to twelve persons.

With their numbers and talent the choir easily fills the church with song but the congregation is also a “singing” people and not just quietly so that people in front of you can’t hear you, but joyfully singing out in praise to the Lord. Besides a fantastic volume, the choir enjoys being challenged with proper breathing, vocal technique, diction, phrasing, harmonies and dynamics.
 
St. John parish enjoys a variety of musical styles including chants, standard hymns and contemporary. There is an organ, a Casio digital piano and a Yamaha Clavinova digital ‘baby grand’. The Parish is accustomed to mostly piano accompaniment. We are an OCP Breaking Bread parish. The choir has copies of Choral Praise 3rd edition as well as the Navy Blue Gather Comprehensive First Edition.
